Civitella Alfedena

Civitella Alfedena is located at the foots of imponent mountain groups (Meta, Greco, Godi and Marsicano's peaks), of the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park (Pnalm), in the valley there is the Barrea's Lake. In its mountainous territory, covered by luxuriant forests among the most suggestive of the Apennines, it is above the largest Integral Nature Reserve of Italy "Camosciara - Feudo Intramonti", refuge of a great variety of flora and fauna once present on most of the Italian mountains and valleys, the most important area of the ecological, naturalistic and landscape point of view. The magic of the woods, brightly colored in autumn or shrouded in snow, the shining of the sun behind a ridge, the charm of a photographic safari in the realm of chamois or on the tracks of the bear. And then the silence, the great silence of the mountain, suddenly resumed by the howling of a wolf pack. These are some flashes of emotions experienced during an excursion that starts from the town. Entering on foot with the classic excursion or trekking, with cycling or mountain bike, with snowshoes or skis on your feet, with the horse or mule, with canoe or kayak, to discover woods and valleys or a unusual view of the water, they are surely the most ecological and clean way to get to know the territory in all its aspects. Civitella offers ample opportunities for excursions and recreation in a healthy and relaxing environment and certainly one of the most important starting points for the Park's trails.

Villetta Barrea

Villetta Barrea, in the green and uncontaminated heart of the National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise, is a country in which nature and culture come together in an inseparable combination of rare beauty, in which every corner, every alley, every view and the splendid pinus nigrasusceta pinewood bring unforgettable and overwhelming emotions to tourists. The village, where the deer are at home, rises between Monte Mattone and Monte Sterpi d’Alto at 990 m.s.l.m. at the point where the Sangro river, which runs through it for its entire length, enters a gorge with steep wooded sides and then widens and enters Lake Barrea. The warmth of its inhabitants, the authenticity of the scenery and traditions century-olds make it the ideal destination for a relaxing and restful stay but also for the discovery and knowledge of its naturalistic and cultural itineraries. The main part of the town is full of commercial activities and tourist services for an active, dynamic and pleasant vacation, while the historical center, in the highest part, gives visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in corners of pure tranquility with wonderful views of the lake, the green embrace of the mountains and the beauty of historical remains. In past centuries the main source of livelihood of the local economy was entrusted to the transhumant pastoralism, whose practice has ensured that unique and unmistakable cultural, artistic and social characteristics have settled throughout the territory. Today Villetta is the destination of a “4 seasons” tourism, irresistible for the warm and fragrant spring days, for those warm and green in summer, for its colorful autumnal scenery and for the suspended and fairy-tale atmospheres of the snow-white winter snowfalls. In fact, among the main resources of the country, there is tourism, in particular the summer one: the traveler is attracted by the possibility of visiting the museum structures and devoting himself to long walks and guided hikes in the name of uncontaminated nature. Added to this is the possibility of practicing water sports and exploring cultural itineraries, all in the midst of beautiful mountains and evocative forests rich in an extraordinary variety of flora and fauna. Reaching Villetta Barrea is very simple occupying an almost equidistant position from the three main cities of central Italy, namely Rome, Naples and Pescara.

Barrea

Barrea is one of the main municipalities of the Abruzzo National Park, the "progenitor" of the Italian national parks and today a source of great tourist appeal. Its territory is an authentic kaleidoscope of naturalistic beauties ranging from the landscapes of mountains and forests as far as the eye can see to the discreet and suggestive presence of flora and fauna species that have disappeared elsewhere. Our municipality dominates the most beautiful valley of the entire park. A crown of solemn mountains closes it from every side, culminating in 2249 meters. of the Monte Greco. The sides of the massifs are covered with forests predominantly of beech and furrowed with watercourses, almost all tributaries of the Sangro river which, blocked by a dam at the end of the valley, has created an artificial lake of further aesthetic appeal, today the only mirror water from Abruzzo part of the Ramsar convention. From the inhabited center or just outside it, naturalistic itineraries start that allow you to reach, with various levels of difficulty, the most important destinations in this corner of the Park: Lago Vivo, Rifugio Forca Resuni, Lago Pantaniello. The living room, recommended in every season to all nature lovers to restore the spirit, admire extraordinary landscapes and compete with the Abruzzo mountains, is made more comfortable and enjoyable by the many tourist facilities that allow you to appreciate hospitality, cuisine and "extravagances" of this strong and generous land and its frank and friendly people.
